Born and raised in El Paso, Texas, Raymond Gay’s passion for illustration emerged early, influenced by classic comic book icons and concept art from video games and movies.

His breakthrough came in 2020 doing covers for IDW Publishing’s TMNT. His work quickly expanded to Image Comics, where he worked on titles such as Spawn, Gunslinger, The Scorched, The Black Ritual and Sam and Twitch. Other notable credits include Witchblade and works on Ghost Machine(Redcoat, Geiger and Sisterhood).

As well as continuing to work for Spawn and Sam and Twitch, he is also set to take over interior pencils and art duties on the relaunched The Darkness starting with issue #2. This relaunch, led by Marc Silvestri, marks a significant expansion for Raymond beyond covers into ongoing interior work.

What was the first comic you bought?

First comic book he ever purchased was X-Men #1.

Favourite character to draw?

Anything 'Creatire' like but there are too many to be specific.

Biggest artistic influences?

I take a lot of influence by concept art but love anything that looks cool. I grew up with all the legends.

Favourite convention snack?

Chex mix and Red Bulls but it’s hard to eat during conventions.
